It will take over 500 volunteers to make The Berkeley Half marathon happen. We have numerous positions and would love your help!

Basic Volunteer Opportunities

The 3rd Annual Berkeley Half Marathon needs the assistance from hundreds of volunteers to make our 2016 event happen! There are a variety of opportunities for your group. All assigned volunteer positions are subjected to changing start times and locations. All volunteers are required report directly to their area captain. The 3rd Annual Berkeley Half Marathon Start and Finish Line Festival Area

The main start and finish line for the 3rd Annual Berkeley Half Marathon will once again again be at the iconic Civic Center Park in downtown Berkeley. Come cheer on the runners as they begin their 13.1 mile journey through the historic streets of Berkeley.

Volunteer Job Opportunities:

  • Informational/Directional Volunteers: Customer Service oriented volunteers are needed to help runners and spectators by answering questions and directing participants to the correct locations
  • Distribution of Refreshments: Make sure runners receive food and fluids before they begin their event, and after they cross the finish line. These positions may require physical labor.
  • Shuttle Assistance (Runner and Spectator Buses): These helpful volunteers will assist runners and spectators to ensure they make it on the correct shuttle. With a variety of drop-off locations, the volunteers will need to have basic location knowledge of the city of Berkeley.
  • Distribution of Heatsheets: Pass out heatsheets to warm up runners after they cross the finish line.
  • Distribution of Medals: Help greet and award runners with their finishers medals. Congratulate them on their amazing accomplishment too!
  • Green Team: Assist The Berkeley Half Marathon race staff in keeping all event areas clean and free from debris.
  • Shirt Exchange: Assist runners in exchanging their participant shirt to the correct size. Shirts must not be worn to be eligible for exchange.

Race Day Travel Information for Volunteers

There are a variety of ways for a volunteer to get to the Race Expo over Race Weekend and the Start and Finish Line in Civic Center Park on race day. Please contact your volunteer captain for more information on parking if you are volunteering at an aid station.
