The Inaugural Berkeley Half Marathon 2013

This 13.1 mile point-to-point race route was created to show off Berkeley’s favorite spots – from the city center to the UC Berkeley Campus and the beautiful waterfront and marina, this 13.1 mile race will not disappoint. The route is flat, fast, and net-downhill, so it’s perfect for a new PR or tune-up before your next big event.

The Course

The race starts at Civic Center Park, wraps around the west side of the UC Berkeley Campus, and then continues straight through the heart of Berkeley on University Avenue, passing local shops and parks on the way to the marina. At mile 4, the course turns south along the waterfront, along the Berkeley Marina, turns around to head north to Cesar Chavez Park, looping around the park, exposing breathtaking sights of the SF skyline and the bay. Finally, the route continues north for a finish and celebration at Golden Gate Fields.

There are 1.5 miles of dirt/gravel course.

All Half Marathon participants receive a technical fabric long-sleeved shirt.

Finishers receive a finisher’s medal, electronic finisher’s certificate, and individual care, both on and off the course and following – including food, beverage, heat sheet and availability of medical care, and post race massages.

All registered runners will receive complimentary shuttle service from the Finish Line Festival back to the Start Line area. The shuttles will run from 9:30am to 1:30pm.



Awards will be given to the top three overall women and top three overall men in the Half Marathon, 10 Mile, and 10K. The top male and top female in bear costume in the “Bearable 10 Mile” will also receive an award. Age group awards will be given to the top three females and top three males in the Half Marathon in each age division. Age group awards will be mailed after the event.


Half Marathon awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following age divisions: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 and over.
